Elizabeth Edwards

Regardless of whether we agree in our politics or not, we are all connected by the thread of humanity. It is this thread that unites us and pulls us together. It allows us to have compassion toward someone in pain though we may disagree on virtually every issue or we can't speak each other's language or even when our religious faiths are poles apart.

Sadness was my overwhelming response to the announcement that Elizabeth Edwards, wife of Democratic Presidential Candidate John Edwards, has incurable cancer. Though Mrs. Edwards will likely live for a few years with treatment, the fact is her life is being cut short when she should be looking forward to enjoying her children and spending the rest of a long life with her husband. Instead, she's facing the tragic shortening of life.

She will likely handle all of this with undoubted grace and we will pray for that grace to continue. But I hope and pray that in days to come, she will be given the energy to enjoy her time fully-- and maybe, just maybe, a miracle or two.
