British Scientists Seek Approval for Human-Animal Hybrid Clones

Three teams of British scientists have requested permission to create human-animal hybrid clones in an effort to increase the number of human embryonic stem cells wanted for experiments.

Human eggs are expensive to procure so British scientists hope to use human DNA derived from patients with specific diseases and insert that DNA into cow eggs that have had the genetic material removed. Researchers would then stimulate the eggs to begin dividing until they reach the stage of a five-day-old embryo. If successful, the stem cells would be removed, destroying the human/cow hybrid.

We have seen science pushed to the boundaries before and will likely see it happen again in the near future. The attempts to create five-day-old human-animal clones are just the tip of the iceberg.
