Great Britain Changes Guidelines for Determining Death

According to the Times Online, Great Britain has changed it's guidelines for determining death in an effort to gain more organs for donation.

Beginning in September, instead of using brain death as the guide for defining death, hospitals will be following the guideline of five minutes without a heartbeat. After five minutes, efforts can be begin to harvest organs. The country is also planning on making organ donation a presumption for every patient unless they purposefully opt-out of the program and make their wishes known.
