Please Don't Listen to Them Mr. President

The Washington Post, in an editorial this past week, called on President Bush to support embryonic stem cell research. Stating that, "President Bush has few allies left in the stem cell debate", the Post argued that President Bush "should reconsider his position" on lifting the ban on federal funding for human embryo stem cell research.

The Post notes that Bush appointee and head of the NIH, Dr. Elias A. Zerhouni, insisted during Congressional testimony, "that studies showing stem cells taken from adults to be just as promising as embryonic stem cells 'do not hold scientific water.'"

How excruciatingly disingenous. Dr. Zerhouni is basing his observations regarding the "benefits" of human embryonic stem cells on theories that, after nearly 20 years of privately funded research, we still only know as theories.
