The conservative columnist Bob Novak died earlier today. He was diagnosed with brain cancer last year. He was 78.
When I first began working at National Right to Life, someone from Mr. Novak's office would call at least once a week to fact check or get the latest on a piece of legislation.
Mr. Novak's columns skewered the Left and sometimes the Right. He was a member of the old-school of reporters and journalists and he will be missed.

Citing his situation as "dire," Bob Novak has announced the end of his political column.
It must be dire indeed.
Bob Novak has written through serious illness before (including cancer). To announce his retirement gives rise to speculation that he may not recover from this. I hope that is not the case.
Mr. Novak will be receiving treatment for his brain tumor-- I pray all goes well.
First of all, I'm back and I apologize for the terse "On Vacation" header last week. I had every intention of blogging while we were out of town but, as it sometimes happens, even the best laid plans can come to nothing and this is what happened to mine. The laptop I was supposed to have had at my disposal was left behind and my husband's IPod is only able to do so much. It didn't have the power to do more than post the header-- which is why there were no blog entries.
Second, SCOTUS Blog is reporting the 4th Circuit in Virginia will rehear the case involving the Virginia's ban on partial-birth abortions.
Previously, a three judge panel heard the case and in a 2-1 decision declared it unconstitutional.
The Virginia AG, Bob McDonnell, asked the 4th Circuit to review the findings and to rehear the case en banc-- the court agreed.
Third, my prayers are with Bob Novak while he is hospitalized. I will be praying for his doctors and that his tumor is not malignant. I hope we will see his regular column again soon.
